John 1 (see also: Joseph Smith Translation- John 1:1-34, 42)
We missed seeing Izaiah and McKayla today. I hope they are doing well and that we will see them next week.
What to read this week-
- John 1:1-5~ Jesus lived with Heavenly Father before HIs birth and created the Earth
- John 1:6-18~ John introduces John the Baptist
- John 1:19-28~ John the Baptist answers the priest's questions
- John 1:29-34~ John relates witnessing John the Baptist baptizing Jesus (we'll learn more about this next week)
- John 1:35-51~ John the Baptist testifies Jesus is the "Lamb of God"; Jesus gains his first followers (Andrew and Simon Peter, Philip, and Nathaneal)
This week gets us into the very beginning of Christ's ministry. John's purpose for writing was to show that Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God. So some stories we are more familiar with are glossed over (i.e. Jesus' baptism) in John's writing and some things we normally don't focus on are detailed in this book. (i.e. gathering of followers/disciples).
